The McAllen's Drop 1000 Feet in Flight!

While half way through the flight to Sydney, all is calm on the 747;  People sleeping, reading, watching Marley & Me and passing the time while gently packed like sardines in seats and trying on to NOT touch the arm of the stranger sitting next to you.  When out of the blue, turbulence hits with that rumbling and bumping; dreaded but so familiar on long flights.  What wasn't expected was the 1000 foot instant drop that immediately followed, causing beverages to fly upward drenching the overhead luggage compartments only to drip mockingly back on the heads of the screaming passengers!  The beauty of the whole jarring experience is that; 1. We live to tell the story, 2.  The territorial invisible wall dividing passengers space was banished as strangers clutched each other in fear and then nervously started asking questions like, "Where do you live?" and "are you on holiday?" and 3.  Everyone while unleashing lung power, busted out in hysterical laughter immediately following the drop, which was the most enjoyable and refreshing response.  Mike only had a little accident in his underpants.  heehee

Glad to hear you are both alright! Hope Mike was able to buy some new underoos down under! Funny how scary incidents bring people to laughter.
